Article marketing: Writing articles related to your business and submitting them to be published on other websites or email newsletters is another great way to reach your target market for free. Although mass distribution of a single article across the web doesn’t have the same SEO benefits it once had, submitting exclusive articles to a specific site can still reap many rewards including SEO, boosting your credibility, and reaching a market that might not otherwise know about you. Plus, some website will pay for your article. Because article marketing is time consuming, you want to consider how you can repurpose the piece into other forms of content or towards new audiences.
But Google never said guest blogging would result in poor rankings. They said marketers should provide valuable content and host it on reputable sites. Which should have been the plan for most marketers to being with.
Whether you have recently been given responsibility for getting your business on the Web or to handle a pre-existing Web site, there are some general truths (at least in this consultant’s eyes) that you should strongly consider.

This book was highly recommended by one of my communications clients. I bought it and dived in. It is easy to read, broken up in digestible chunks, but the information is pretty basic to anyone who works in web design, PR, writing, etc. One of those “oh, I knew that but it is good to see it confirmed in writing by someone else” type of reads.

One of the first things that most network marketing companies have you do, when you join them, is ask you to create a list of ALL your family and friends so you can reach out to them with your home-based business opportunity. This list of names is known as your warm market.
It is very helpful to have a 500 error page. This occurs when the website’s code is malfunctioning and not working properly. A generic error page will just say that connection has timed out. You can inform your customers that you know about the problem and are working to resolve it by better methods than resorting to the generic error page.
Unfortunately, there were also those website owners who were stuck in the middle. Companies and individuals without a dedicated marketing team to test and tweak their strategies also saw their rankings dive. Most of the websites in this category were run by business owners focused on day-to-day operations.
Google whatever you want to learn. There are plenty step-by-step tutorials on EVERYTHING. There are even YouTube videos on pretty much everything. Try things, and you’ll learn what works and what’s crap.
When trying to sell a product online, it is important to make it easy for your customer to buy your product. Regardless of whether your site is just simple text with a few pictures or a large professionally designed online store, your customer needs to know how and where to make a purchase. If that information is too difficult to find, you will lose a majority of your sales.
The fact that so many people use search engines in their daily routines can amount to a goldmine for businesses of all kinds—including your pizzeria. Imagine that you are the owner/manager of a pizzeria in Chicago and your website appears on the first page of a Google search when someone types in “pizza in Chicago,” a phrase that receives an average of 14,800 searches each month on Google alone (data provided by Google Adwords Keyword Tool). With that amount of search volume, websites on the first page of Google are going to receive a large amount of traffic from people who are interested in exactly what these sites are offering—pizza in Chicago. That is the beauty of Internet search: Customers come to you when they are most interested in what you have. Obviously, not many people are going to search for “pizza in Chicago” if they do not want pizza in Chicago. That is targeted traffic.
Look for the F11 key in the top row of keys on your keyboard. If you have a browser up, pressing this key will remove everything from your screen but the content of the current page. This means you can’t see any navigation buttons, browser bar, even the bar that is always at the bottom of your computer screen disappears. Many people accidentally press this button and then have no idea what to do. They eventually have to turn off their computer by holding down the power button (which you should never do unless absolutely necessary as it can lead to data loss). If you ever find yourself stuck in this position, just press F11 again and everything will come back.
Use Internet advertising where it makes sense. Internet advertising has been pushed as a direct-response device, but the B2B process is far more complex and longer than with B2C. Where a B2C ad may attempt to get a consumer to make a purchase, this is not realistic for high-ticket B2B items. Instead, B2B marketers should consider using Internet advertising to reach targets that regularly use the Internet at the places they often go with ads that feature things like white papers, research, Web seminars and other information that is likely to be of strong interest to prospects.
For some, social media is nothing more than a way to stay in touch with old friends. But for businesses, social media is a way to tie SEO and content marketing together. Search engines take into consideration the number of shares a page receives when it ranks that particular piece of content.

Promote Your Web site. There is a popular misconception that Web sites do not need to be promoted. Consider that some of the Web’s biggest successes spend about 75% of their advertising budgets on non-Internet media. Having a Web site is like having a toll-free number that’s not listed in every phone book…you need to work hard to drive visitors to your Web site. As with any other media, it costs money to make it a success. Marketing is a science that has progressed over the last century or more. The more technologically advanced we become, the more scientifically sophisticated marketing becomes. Here’s how to get started the right way.
